Somtel Somalia, a leading Somali telecommunication company has officially launched the eSIM card which is new service introduced in Somalia by the company for the first time nearly more than two years ago.
The eSIM card service introduced by Somtel Somalia in Mogadishu city on August 26, 2021 is designed to assist the subscribers to access all services without using sim cards or linking to routers.
The eSIM card services include calls, internet and eDahab, the services is expected to increase internet penetration and connectivity among the people.
The new service would allow subscribers to access the Internet on their mobile phones without using Physical sim cards or linking to routers.
The initiation of the services has made easier to have 2 sim-cards with the smart phones and at the same time to be in line with the world. Somtel Somalia has also facilitated for the people who can not come to the company branches to access the SIM cards.
Since Somalia became the fifth country providing the eSIM services to Africa, with this initiative Somtel Somalia has facilitated for the travelers to carry and use multiple SIM cards.
The eSIM card service each costing 4 dollars is mostly used by the people that can afford to have smartphones, and the eSIM card service has become valuable solution for the people with telephones that do not have a SIM card.
The launch makes Somalia the fifth country to use the service after Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and Senegal which has stepped onto this platform only short time before Somtel Somalia has introduced the service in Somalia.
“The eSIM-card supports the latest smart phones such as the iPhone 11 and the latest version of Samsung phones.” Abdullahi Amir, Commercial Manager of Somtel Somalia stated at the time of launching event for the service.
“The launch of the eSim transforms dependency on the physical card to a high-tech, subscriber-friendly virtual platform. With smartphones, eSims give the user much more flexibility in managing service plans.” Mahad Omar Abdulle, Marketing & Public Relation Manager of Somtel Somalia said
“eSim Card makes it easy in taking up simcards and the intention is to keep up with the global progress in terms of technology.” Abdi Sheik Ahmed, Minister of Telecommunication and Technology of the Federal Government of Somalia pointed out at the launching ceremony for the new service.
